Story about this
Shanti Stupa, as the name suggests, is a sacred and peaceful Buddhist stupa situated atop a hill at Changspa, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir. The Shanti Stupa has an interesting history behind it. It is first and foremost, a symbol of world peace and prosperity, specially between the people of Japan and Ladakh. The Shanti Stupa also stands as a commemoration of 2500 years of Buddhism. This pearly white dome-shaped edifice shines like a beacon under the night skies when illuminated. You can spend your time in prayer while circumambulating to canned mantras or indulge in meditation at the Buddha Hall to feel refreshed and cheerful for the remainder of your trip.
The construction of the Shanti Stupa was a part of the Peace Pagoda Mission. It was built by a Buddhist named Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura from Japan in the year 1991. It has gilt panels adorned with snippets that depict the life of Lord Buddha. You also can’t ignore the remarkable view it offers of Leh. The beautiful Shanti Stupa is bathed in the charm of the snow-capped mountains and the pretty little cottages of the locals. In order to reach the Shanti Stupa, you have to make a 15-minute climb, up a flight of steep steps that are already shadowed when the city is still enjoying golden afternoon sunlight. After your tour of the Stupa, you can sip on some hot, piping coffee or tea at the small café present inside
